Description

Ubiquiti WM-W WifiMan Wizard

Product Details

The Ubiquiti WiFiMan Wizard is described by Ubiquiti as “a portable spectrum analyzer designed for the WiFiMan iOS and Android mobile app”. It is worth being clear from the outset that this is hardware, not the free WiFiMan app — the app is simply its screen.

A phone can tell you which networks it can see. It cannot tell you what else is in the band: the microwave, the cordless headset, the neighboring radar, the leaky video sender that makes a channel unusable without ever showing up as an SSID. This is a receiver that does. It sweeps 2.4 to 2.5 GHz and 5.15 to 5.85 GHz and reports RF energy from -96 dBm to 0 dBm at 1 dBm resolution, and the WiFiMan app draws it. For anyone doing site surveys or standing in front of a customer explaining why their Wi-Fi is slow in one corner of the building, that is the difference between a theory and a picture.

It is built to be carried rather than set up: 78.5 by 50.5 mm and 7.9 mm thick, 32 g, IP55 rated, with a rechargeable 300 mAh cell good for 240 minutes of continuous scanning and a USB-C charging port. It sticks to the back of an iPhone by MagSafe, which needs a MagSafe case — not included — so it can be walked round a site one-handed. Pairing is Bluetooth. Note what it is not: there is no Ethernet port, no Wi-Fi networking radio and no UniFi console role, and the USB-C port is for charging only. It needs WiFiMan iOS 0.18.0 or Android 1.15.0 or later.
