The TOA SR-S4LWP is a Type S line array module: eight 10 cm woofers and twenty-four 2.5 cm dome tweeters in a 160 mm wide cabinet, 600 W continuous program at 8 ohms, with 90 degree horizontal dispersion. A line array works by stacking drivers vertically in close proximity so they behave as one tall sound source rather than several separate ones. The result is tight vertical control: sound goes to the audience and not at the ceiling or the floor, which is what keeps speech intelligible in a room with hard surfaces and a long reverberation time.
The L and S suffixes are the coverage pattern, and they are not interchangeable. L is straight — 0° vertical, a flat wall of sound within the height of the cabinet, for throwing down a long room. S is curved, spreading the pattern vertically to cover an audience closer in and across a wider depth. This one is the L version — vertical coverage 0° (within the range of the speaker height). The curved S model is stocked as SR-S4SWP. TOA quotes the frequency response with the optional DP-SP3 digital speaker processor applied. Without it the speaker still works, but the published figures assume that processing is in place — worth factoring into a system design rather than discovering afterwards.
This is the weather-resistant version, built for outdoor and under-eave positions: a plywood enclosure with a urethane coating and a punched stainless steel grille. Connection is the one thing to plan for — it has a permanently attached 3 m four-core cable rather than screw terminals or Speakon connectors, so the cable run has to reach a junction within that distance. The indoor version of the same speaker is SR-S4L, and its brackets are the painted-steel parts, not these. Mounting options: SR-WB4WP wall mount | SR-TB4WP wall tilt | SR-EP4WP extension plate.
