The TOA HX-5W-WP is a compact line array speaker whose vertical coverage angle can be changed on site. Variable directivity is the point of the HX-5. It is a line array of four modules, each carrying a 4.72-inch cone driver and three 1-inch balanced dome tweeters — twelve tweeters in all. The vertical coverage angle is set on site, in 15-degree steps, between 15° and 60°, without changing any hardware: narrow it to throw sound down a long reverberant space and keep it off the walls, or open it out to cover a wide seating area close in. Horizontal coverage stays at 100°.
Narrowing the pattern trades bass extension for reach and gain: sensitivity rises from 96 dB at 60° to 99 dB at 15°, while the low end moves up with it. Both figures are in the specification table for every mode, so the pattern can be chosen against the room rather than guessed at. Two Speakon NL4MP sockets wired in parallel allow daisy-chaining, and an M4 screw terminal is provided as an alternative. Rated 600 W continuous program at 8 Ω, 200 W continuous pink noise, crossing over at 4 kHz. Up to four units may be stacked.
This is the weather-resistant version, rated IPX4 and finished with a rust-proofed net. Note that it must be installed with every speaker module facing downward, and that sealing costs it bass extension: 95 Hz in 60° mode against 70 Hz on the indoor version. Supplied in white; the same speaker in black is stocked as HX-5B-WP, and the indoor version as HX-5W. Brackets are specific to this model: HY-WM1WP for a wall or ceiling with tilt, HY-WM2WP to mount it close to the surface, HY-CW1WP to suspend it, HY-CN1W-WP to join two together and HY-PF1WP to fly it with an FB-120 subwoofer.
