The SLM-5400-C is one of the most compact in-ceiling speakers on the market: 50mm deep, with a fully enclosed back box. It exists for the ceilings that will not take a normal speaker — shallow joist bays, concrete soffits, apartments with a floor directly above.
The acoustics come from the Klipsch Reference 3000 architectural series: a 4" (10.2cm) Cerametallic™ woofer with a 1" (2.5cm) Titanium dome tweeter with round Tractrix horn.
The ultra-slim galvanized metal back box is fire-rated, which does two useful things at once: it isolates sound from the floor above or the room next door, and it fixes the enclosure volume so the low-frequency response stays consistent regardless of what is in the cavity.
The flat, magnetic, minimum-bezel SlimTrim grille keeps the visible fitting discreet, and both square and round grilles are included so the speaker can match either trim style in the room.
